    Meaning of Alhamdulillah

    The word “Alhamdulillah” simply means praise for the blessings that God has given us, and they are gifts that cannot be enumerated, so we are grateful for what God has given us.

    The meaning of Alhamdulillah it is one of the beautiful meanings found in Islam. Imagine when someone does a favor for you, it is natural for you to say thank you to him. Imagine that it is God, Almighty, who has given you all these blessings and gifts. When you say Alhamdulillah, this means that you are grateful for these gifts.

    And saying “Alhamdulillah” is not limited to being praised while you are in the best condition, but you are satisfied with your condition, whether it is in the best condition or not.

     

    When to Say Alhamdulillah

    Do not misunderstand me to thank God if you are in your best condition, and God only gives you many blessings, but to thank Him in all cases, both in richness and in poverty. And to be satisfied with what I give you of yes.

    Do not repeat the word on your tongue only, but also in your heart. And remember when God proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you. But if you deny, indeed, my punishment is severe.’”

    The Benefits of saying Alhamdulillah

    Saying “Alhamdulillah” is one of the most important foundations of Islam and has great merit with God. Among its benefits:

      • God Almighty has commanded us to remember Him and thank Him for His blessings. Whoever remembers the grace of God, God will increase the blessings.
      • It is his “sunnah”, the Prophet used to do it and the Muslims did it after him, and whoever follows the “sunnah” of the Prophet will have a great reward with God.

     

    What is the meaning of Alhamdulillah in English?

    Alhamdulillah is an Arabic word (pronounced “Al-Ham-Doo-Lil-Lah”).The corresponding the meaning of Alhamdulillah in English:

    “All praise and gratitude belong to Allah (God)”.

    It is derived from the verb Hamad, which means praise. Here comes the word Hamad meaning grateful and appreciative.

    What can I say instead of Alhamdulillah?

    You can say Alhamdulillah for everything. It has a deep meaning, which is that a person praises God for good and evil, but there is no evil that God can do for you. It’s good for you even when you do not know.

    It is habits that the Messenger may God bless him and grant him peace, used to do. When he repented, he would then say Alhamdulillah.

    As the scientists say, when a person sneezes, harmful bacteria come out, so we say, praise be to God, that a person sneezing naturally.

    Reply to Alhamdulillah

    When someone sneezes and says, “Alhamdulillah” the appropriate response to it is Yar-hamuka-Allah “May God has mercy on you.” This is one of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, and whoever follows the teachings of the Prophet has a great reward with God.

    The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone of you sneezes, he should say ‘Al-Hamduli Allah ( Allpraise and gratitude belongs to Allah), and his (Muslim) brother or companion should say to him, ‘Yar-hamuka-l-lah’ (May Allah bestow His Mercy on you).

    When the latter says ‘Yar-hamuka-llah”, the former should say, ‘Yahdikumul-lah wa Yuslih balakum’ (May Allah give you guidance and improve your condition). – [Sahih al-Bukhari].

     

    What is the difference between Mashallah and Alhamdulillah?

    There is a big difference in meaning between the two words:

      • The word “Alhamdulillah” as we mentioned before, “All praise and gratitude belong to Allah (God)”, and that you are grateful and thankful to God, meaning that it expresses contentment.
      • The word Mashallah: expresses astonishment at something, so it says   God has willed it” (Masha’Allah). ِِAs an expression of happiness.

    Why do Muslims always say Alhamdulillah?

    Yes, it is a habit among Muslims, because saying it frequently will teach you humility, as you are grateful for the blessings that surround you, so you know their value, no matter how small or visible to you.

    When you are ungrateful for the blessings around you, you will be a selfish, ungrateful person. In addition to that, you have a great reward with God because you remember God and follow the Prophet Muhammad, so God increases blessings upon you.

     

    How many times we should say Alhamdulillah?

    As we mentioned before, it is not a specific number of times, but after sneezing and after eating, you say Alhamdulillah, but it is better if you say it many times every day.

     

    What are you grateful and thankful for?

    The number of blessings you possess is innumerable, so let us agree to reflect on the blessings we have and be grateful to God who has given them to us. After every prayer, you can think about it and say Alhamdulillah. This is a special kind of meditation.

    The first word in the Holy Qur’an

    The phrase is first found in the second verse of the first surah of the Quran (Al-Fatiha).Surat Al-Fatihah is repeated in every prayer, so this means that you repeat, Alhamdulillah, a lot in one day.

    Anas bin Malik (May Allah is pleased with him) reported:

    The Messenger of Allah said, “Allah is pleased with His slave who says: ‘Al-hamdu lillah “All praise and gratitude belong to Allah (God)”. When he takes a morsel of food and drinks a draught of water.”
