Do many Superogatory Prayers (Nafil)
Here are some Nafil prayers we can pray on Laylatul Qadr:
- Two Rakat after performing Wudu (Ablution)
- Tahajjud
- Salaatul Tasbih

The ideal place to make Supererogatory Salat is at home.
Except for certain Salats for which praying in congregation is advised, such as at-Taraweeh in Ramadhan, it is preferable to do supererogatory Salats at home rather than at a mosque. Says the Prophet:
“Indeed, the best Salat (performed) by a man is what he observes in his house, except for the obligatory ones.” [ Source: Al-Bukhari.]

When should we pray for Laylatul Qadr?
About laylatul qadr surahs to read: As Aishah (RA) pointed out, this is by the Prophet’s (saw) Sunnah:
‘When the last ten days (of Ramadan) started, the Prophet (saw) would tighten his waist belt (i.e., exert himself), and he would give life to his nights (i.e., pray all night), and he would awaken his family (for prayers).’ [Bukhari]
Gift some light to go to Masjid Al-Aqsa if you can to receive the merit of 1,000 prayers on Laylat al-Qadr:
‘What should we do if one of us cannot visit there (Al-Aqsa)?’ the Prophet (saw) was asked. Then he should make a gift of some oil to be lit therein [in its lamps].
Indeed, the one who gifts this to it will be like the one who has prayed therein (worth 1,000 prayers)’.
It is essential to do all of the known non-obligatory prayers (sunnah Salawat) and other forms of devotion that the Prophet performed on whom be peace.
Here’s an example
For instance, following the caller to prayer (mu’adhdhin), speak the supplications (s. du’a) between the call to prayer (adhan) and the summons to rise for prayer (iqama), and make prophetic supplications before and after breaking one’s fast.
Bukhari reported on the authority of Anas ibn Malik that the Companions, may God be pleased with them, used to rush to the mosque’s pillars [to perform the non-obligatory prayers that the Prophet, on him be peace, did (Sunnah) behind them] after the call to the Sunset Prayer. They would be performing these extra ritual prayers when the Prophet, on him be peace, came out of his home to lead the obligatory (fard).
As a result, the Companions would rush to perform the optional two cycles (rak’ahs) of prayer to enjoy the additional benefits besides knowing laylatul qadr surahs to read.

On Laylat al-Qadr, like on the other days of Ramadan, many Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, or engaging in sexual intercourse during daylight hours. During the last ten days of Ramadan, they make an additional effort to ask for forgiveness and study the Koran. This is thought to be a time when prayers are answered, and benefits abound.
During the last ten days and nights of Ramadan, some Muslims spend the majority of their time at a mosque.
They worship, study the Koran, and rest or sleep during daytime hours.
They also eat and drink throughout the hours of darkness. It is a time of communal devotion, prayer, expectation, and celebration of Islam. Many people of the community spend much of the last days of Ramadan together in a mosque.
During this time, anyone who lives near a mosque or a Muslim family may hear the Koran being read aloud or chanted.
This is an attempt to read the Koran in its entirety during Ramadan. As it is a night of forgiving, good actions are also done at this time.
Some Muslims believe that God reveals their fates for the entire year on Laylat al-Qadr.
