It occurs after the month of Ramadan, and it is desirable to fast six days of it, whether consecutive or separate, with the exception of the first day of the month of Shawwal, which is the day of Eid al-Fitr.
It is not permissible to fast during it, as it is forbidden to fast on the two days of Eid Al-Fitr and Al-Adha

Merits of Fasting on 9th and 10th of Muharram
Among the virtues of fasting the ninth and tenth of Muharram are the following:
- The predecessors were very keen to realize it, to the extent that some of them used to fast while traveling.
- Therefore, this day is the best day in the month of Muharram, so its fasting falls on a rank next to the status of fasting Arafa.
- That is because fasting on the day of Arafah expiates for two years, and fasting on Ashura expiates for one year.
- So let the Muslim be keen to fast the ninth and tenth of Muharram to erase his sins and sins that he committed in the year.
-
The Messenger of God said, “So if the next year comes, God willing, we will fast on the ninth day.” He said, the next year did not come until the Messenger of God died.
